History of the Swedes Who Settled in Clay County, South Dakota
Clay County, South Dakota, was the final destination for almost 250 immigrant Swedes. The community is located between Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Sioux City, Iowa. The author, August Petersen, was a resident of this area who took upon himself the task of researching these early Swedish pioneers. He has provided biographical notes on the original 242 Swedish immigrants who settled in this county and their immediate families. These biographies include data of genealogical importance, including birth dates, death dates, marriages, and biographies on the children born from those marriages.
This book is an important resource for Swedish-Americans whose ancestors include Swedish immigrants to Clay County, South Dakota. Most of the biographies include reference to the parish of birth for these immigrants, important information for continuing your research into Swedish records. Many of these Swedish immigrants came from Dalarna and Hälsingland, but many also came from other parts of Sweden and they represented almost all other provinces.
This book would also be of interest to Swedes researching family members who immigrated into Clay County from Sweden. The biographies would include not only information about the lives of these Swedish immigrant pioneers, but also enough genealogical information to enable you to continue your research into US census and other genealogical records within the US. If you have a letter from America in your files postmarked with any of the following South Dakota post offices, then you might find your family in this book!
